what is a script for

This might be wrong place to post this , I couldn't post in newbie section.

I know how to hardware encode , use tuner cards and so on but can someone explain what a script is for

I searched and didnt see anything explaining.

scripts are used to automate processes and make things easy for people. the problem with them is sometimes people who shouldn't, find them and cause lots of damage because of them. this is a generalized answer but still holds true. consider any script. dd for example. awesome tool. used wrong, lots of problems and and unfavorable result. with that said. topic is closed. spend some time researching and reading.
